I have called several transmission shops. Why is there such a variation in price for a rebuild service?

Transmission problems cannot be diagnosed over the phone, so transmission shops do not know what is needed for repair. If they don't know what is needed for repair, then any quoted price is speculation. This speculation accounts for the wide variation in price.
